Barclays upgraded Exxon (XOM) to overweight from equal weight based on a higher production growth outlook. The firm, which raised its target to $92 from $90, expects Exxon to have organic growth of more than 3% in 2010 and an average growth rate of 2.6% between 2009 and 2013.

Kaufman Bros. upgraded Palm (PALM) to buy from hold citing the recent pullback in shares and indications that Verizon (VZ) will carry webOS phones as early as 1H10. The firm has a $16 target on the stock.

Piper Jaffray raised Medicis (MRX) to neutral from underweight and raised its target to $20 from $16. Following a management meeting, Piper said they have increased confidence in Soldyn risk and LipoSonix's safety profile.

Stocks were up all day and this works out to be six straight days of a rally in the DJIA. Its new CEO Benmosche has expressed to its board of directors that he may step down over frustration of working under the government and over salary restrictions. This would not be welcome as he is deemed one of the few who can run that show. A late day memo from the company said he is committed and the press is over pay for those at the company. Maybe they wanted more than a marginally positive durable goods reading. The issue was average selling price because it has gotten more competitive out there.
Continue reading Cramer on BloggingStocks: The fault lies with RIMM

Cramer on BloggingStocks: The fault lies with RIMM originally appeared on BloggingStocks on Fri, 25 Sep 2009 10:30:00 EST. The company will now offer 20 million shares rather than the previously reported 16 million. The offering will be at $16.25 per share and should lead to $313.1 million in proceeds.

In early trading, PALM was up more than 3% -- pushing the stock through the $16 level. This level had acted as resistance in the past, so this technical advance is important. We could see the $16 level act as support if needed. Further support could come from PALM's 10- and 20-week moving averages, both of which are advancing to catch up to the equity's current position. More support can be found in the form of PALM's 10- and 20-month moving averages.

Continue reading Palm adds more shares to its new public offering

Palm adds more shares to its new public offering originally appeared on BloggingStocks on Wed, 23 Sep 2009 12:20:00 EST. Yet shares stayed strong. Options expiration dates and a S&P rebalance brought in some added volatility and money managers are now scared to tell their clients that they are not all-in on stocks. So while markets were up most of the day, the real closing bell with all of today's events was something that felt as though it would be down to the wire.

Here were today's unofficial closing bell levels:

Dow 9,819.52 +35.60 (0.36%)
S&P 500 1,068.26 +2.77 (0.26%)
Nasdaq 2,132.86 +6.11 (0.29%)

Top Analyst Upgrades
Top Analyst Downgrades
Top Day Trader Stocks

Continue reading Closing Bell: Options and index re-balance aid bulls (ARNA, AMR, PALM, SIRI, VVUS)

Closing Bell: Options and index re-balance aid bulls (ARNA, AMR, PALM, SIRI, VVUS) originally appeared on BloggingStocks on Fri, 18 Sep 2009 16:00:00 EST. TheStreet.com's Jim Cramer says the action that is linked to the futures markets, such as oil, is distorting rational analysis.

Maybe one day we can escape the commodity linkage and begin to trade on the fundamentals again, something that seems more distant now than any time I can recall. We are totally marching to gold, to oil, to copper, and not the fundamentals.

Throughout the era in which China has become a superpower and hedge funds have become the super arbiters or what goes up or down, we have been stuck with this fairly bogus linkage that corrupts trading and makes a mockery out of some of the most important financial analysis out there, the actual attempts to discover what's really happening at companies.
Continue reading Cramer on BloggingStocks: Fundamental distortion

Cramer on BloggingStocks: Fundamental distortion originally appeared on BloggingStocks on Wed, 09 Sep 2009 10:00:00 EST. TheStreet.com's Jim Cramer says if the company you're looking at is a player in the mobile Internet space, it's probably a good bet.

Does it have smartphone exposure, or doesn't it? That is the question. When I look at what's moving in tech and what's become sullen and gloomy, there's only one compass: smartphones. Think about what's moved this week: Cree (NASDAQ: CREE) (Cramer's Take), Tellabs (NASDAQ: TLAB) (Cramer's Take) and ADC Telecom (NASDAQ: ADCT) (Cramer's Take). These are terrific plays in the smartphone food chain and are included in the "Mad Money" Mobile Internet Index.

ADC Telecom is Chinese Internet infrastructure, and we know that China's spending $40 billion to build out infrastructure that can allow aggressive adoption of smartphones. Tellabs has been waiting for next-generation telecom orders -- smartphones. I think the fact that it announced a giant buyback -- it matters when the stock is this small -- is the signal needed to suggest they are getting orders.
Continue reading Cramer on BloggingStocks: Smartphone? While hosting this infrastructure and presenting e-commerce with a reasonably affordable alternative with no up-front costs, Amazon has taken an early lead in this space, with some believing its cloud computing business will one day overtake retailing. Books will be just a front to sell storage and cloud computing." says Larry Dignan, Editor in Chief of ZDNet and Editorial Director of ZDNet sister site TechRepublic.

Continue reading Five blue-chip stocks with revolutionary new products

Five blue-chip stocks with revolutionary new products originally appeared on BloggingStocks on Mon, 29 Jun 2009 13:00:00 EST.
